We’re using the following creed and confession for our sermon series on Colossians which starts this Sunday. The creed comes from Michael Perry’s book “bible prayers for worship” which is out of print but Amazon.co.uk has a few second hand copies. The confession I wrote myself.
Creed (from Colossians 1):
Let us confess our faith in the Son of God.
Christ is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn over all creation.
By him all things were made,
things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible,
thrones, powers, rulers, and authorities;
all things were made my him and for him.
He is before all things
and in him all things hold together.
He is the head of the body, the Church;
he is the beginning,
and the firstborn from the dead.
Confession (from Colossians 3)
We are raised with Christ,
and yet our hearts are set on things below,
not things above.
We have not rid ourselves of anger, rage,
malice, slander or bad language.
We have not clothed ourselves with compassion,
kindness, humility, gentleness or patience.
We have not forgiven others as you forgave us
Lord, forgive us all our sins
and strengthen us to live
to your praise and glory.
