Suppertime discussions at the vicarage

We’re doing resurrection eggs at suppertime in the vicarage.  Tonight we read about Judas betraying Jesus.  “Why did he do it?” I asked the kids.  “Because he was greedy” the kids agreed.  Then the Queen said “God allowed it to happen.”  But we went further and decided that everyone wanted Jesus to be betrayed.

The chief priests wanted it.
Judas wanted it.
Satan wanted it.
God wanted it.

Why?  They each had their different reasons.

The chief priests didn’t like Jesus.
Judas was greedy.
Satan thought he’d win.
God wanted to remove our sin and guilt.

Only God had a good reason.

Then at bedtime, the Queen, who’d evidently been thinking about it, said. “Dad, God didn’t want Jesus to be betrayed, but then he did want it. Like when you don’t want something to happen but you also do want it to happen because it brings good things.”

Out of the mouths of babes and infants, or primary school kids!
